Microschool FAQ

  • A microschool is distinct from a traditional school, offering an intimate setting of up to 10 students per teacher in a non-traditional space. Microschools focus on student-led learning, allowing children to take ownership of their education. With small class sizes and mixed-age groupings, microschools, like The Village, prioritize autonomy and foster remarkably high student engagement.

  • The Village originally started as a homeschool co-op, and our Microschool was the natural next step as we grew with the needs of our families. The Village has evolved to offer a conducive learning environment not only for homeschooling families but also for those seeking an alternative to traditional schooling due to work, schedules, or budget constraints. The microschool model seamlessly blends the hands-on, individualized learning of homeschooling with the quality of a private school, ensuring accessibility to all. We recognize that it takes a village to nurture a child's educational journey.

  • Absolutely! We offer hybrid options, allowing flexibility based on your family's needs and season of life. Whether you're a homeschooling parent seeking additional support or a working parent looking for a full-time educational solution, The Village Microschool provides autonomy in enrollment to align with your unique circumstances.

  • We aim for a student-to-teacher ratio of 10:1 to ensure personalized attention and a supportive learning environment.

  • Our teachers are called Village Guides. Instead of merely transmitting information, their role is to help students develop into independent learners, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for exploration.

  • Our microschool is catered to K - 6th grade learners.

  • Due to our small class sizes, we organize students into two levels: Little Learners and Big Learners. Rather than segregating children by grade, we tailor their learning journey based on their individual needs, interests, and passions, empowering them to be the architects of their own education.

During their core learning time, our Village Guides are dedicated to ensuring each child progresses in their math and language arts, providing personalized support and guidance to meet their unique educational goals.

Additionally, subjects like history, art, science, geography, and more are covered through collaborative and individualized learning during their project-based learning time and/or collaborative student-led activities, allowing students to explore and delve into their interests.

  • At The Village Microschool, we value the benefits of mixed-age class groups for both younger and older learners. We have separate groups for younger learners and older learners, each encompassing a mix of ages within their respective categories.

This approach creates a natural and enriching learning environment where younger students can look up to their older peers as role models, gaining inspiration and guidance.

Simultaneously, older students have the chance to develop leadership and mentorship skills.

This unique structure fosters a supportive and collaborative atmosphere, enhancing the overall educational experience for all and promoting a sense of shared growth within our diverse student community.

  • At The Village Microschool, we believe in personalized learning paths. With the guidance of our Village Guides, you and your child will collaboratively create a unique learning journey.

Our Guides will provide ongoing communication about your child's progress.

Throughout the year, we document the magical hands-on projects and collaborative activities they engage in. At the end of each semester, your child will have a portfolio showcasing their accomplishments.

  • We aim to follow the Salt Lake Counly & Apine School District calendar for instructional days and breaks.

Since we teach grades K-6, this makes it simple for families with children in both elementary and older grades to plan family time together.

We will be posting our 2024-2025 school calendar late Spring 2024.

  • Tuition details will be announced in Spring 2024, taking into account the flexibility to enroll your child for the number of days per week that aligns with your family's needs.
